Run With Us: The 13th Annual Senior Cat Rescue Marathon
By Dr. Soboroff, Chief of Staff, New York Cat Hospital
On Friday, November 20, my 64th birthday, I will run the Thirteenth Annual New York Cat Hospital Senior Cat Rescue Marathon. And this year, you can join me!
A 26.2-Mile Cat Through Manhattan
For the past several years, I’ve run a 26.2-mile, cat-shaped route through the streets of Manhattan, with friends and supporters following along live as the “cat” gradually takes shape. Last year, a few determined supporters actually tracked me down along the route and joined me for a few miles.
I loved it. So this year, I’m making it official.
How to Join Me
Anyone interested in participating will get a preview of the route and can sign up to join me for a portion of the marathon, whether that’s a mile, a few miles, or whatever suits you. If you’d like to participate, email me at psoboroff@gmail.com, and I’ll send you the route and sign-up information.
Why Senior Cats?
Everyone loves the kittens… but senior cats are so often overlooked. These are the misfits, the forgotten. Many are surrendered simply because they’re old, ill, or no longer wanted, then torn from the only homes they’ve ever known to wait in shelter cages, too often facing euthanasia.
But with your help, we can give them a second chance. The rescue advocates we support pull these cats from the streets and shelter kill lists, get them the medical care they need, and place them in loving foster and forever homes. Together, they’ve saved thousands of senior and special-needs cats.
Meet Alex
Alex is a senior, likely in her late teens, who was pulled from an area shelter along with her sister, both in need of vital medical attention. With proper care and treatment, Alex and her sister are now thriving together in a loving forever home.
12 Years, Nearly Half a Million Dollars
Over the past 12 years, together we’ve raised nearly half a million dollars for senior cat rescue. That’s a lot of help for a lot of cats. Let’s keep it going!
All funds raised will be collected by me and distributed to Frankie’s Feline Fund, CatFixerNY, and Paws Crossed Animal Rescue, all of which are not-for-profit rescue organizations. Funds are specifically earmarked to help senior and special-needs cats.
Ways to Get Involved
Whether you donate, share the post below, follow along on race day, or lace up your sneakers and join me for a few miles, thank you for helping give these wonderful older cats the second chances they deserve.
